Applications
One polymer. Twelve industries.
Thickening, binding, suspending, water retention — which CMC property matters depends on your industry.
01Battery-Grade CMC
Lithium-ion batteries
≥ 99.5 % purity anode binder & dispersant for graphite and silicon-carbon electrodes.
Role of CMC
- Disperses graphite / Si-C active material and conductive carbon
- Thickens and stabilises the slurry — prevents settling during storage and coating
- Forms a film with SBR or PAA to raise electrode peel strength and cohesion

02Food-Grade CMC
Food & beverage
Cellulose gum (E466) to GB 1886.232-2016 — thickener, stabiliser and protein protector.
Role of CMC
- Thickens and builds body without masking flavour
- Stabilises casein in acidified milk drinks and yoghurt beverages (Type 9)
- Controls ice-crystal growth and meltdown in ice cream

03Instant CMC
Fast-dissolving multi-industry
Surface-treated CMC that disperses lump-free and reaches full viscosity fast — DS ≥ 0.95.
Role of CMC
- Lump-free dispersion without pre-wetting or high-shear mixing
- Fast viscosity build — shorter batch times, lower energy
- High DS (≥ 0.95) for clarity, salt and acid tolerance

04Oil-Drilling PAC & CMC
Oil & gas drilling
Fluid-loss control and viscosity in fresh water to saturated brine — tested to GB/T 5005.
Role of CMC
- Reduces API filtrate loss and builds a thin, low-permeability filter cake
- Raises viscosity and carrying capacity for cuttings (HV grades)
- Encapsulates reactive shale — supports wellbore stability

05Paper-Grade CMC
Pulp & paper
Wet-end, surface sizing and coating colour CMC — viscosity tuned from 7 to 600 mPa·s.
Role of CMC
- Wet end: retention, formation and dry-strength aid; protects AKD / rosin sizing
- Surface sizing: film formation, smoothness, ink holdout, oil & grease resistance
- Coating colour: water retention, runnability and rheology control

06Ceramic-Grade CMC
Ceramics & glazes
Green-body binder and glaze suspension aid — nine grades from DS 0.6 to ≥ 1.0.
Role of CMC
- Raises green and dry strength of tile bodies — fewer breakages before firing
- Suspends glaze solids; controls drying and adhesion on the body
- Smooth glaze surface with fewer pinholes and crawling defects

07Toothpaste & Daily-Chemical CMC
Oral & personal care
Binder for stable, glossy toothpaste ribbons — high-DS grades for fluoride and salt systems.
Role of CMC
- Binder and thickener for paste structure and ribbon stand-up
- Prevents phase separation and water bleed (syneresis)
- Suspends silica / calcium carbonate abrasives
